Replicating R/3 DataSources

Table of contents:

Replicating R 3 DataSources

First, we will demonstrate how to activate InfoObject 0PLANT's DataSources in the R/3 source system SND_250. Then, we will replicate those DataSources into BW2.

Note

In the rest of this book, we will use SND_250 as the R/3 source system and BW2 as the BW system.

The following steps show how to activate DataSources.

Prerequisites

The R/3 Plug-In (PI) must be installed in the source system. The Plug-In interface enables the exchange of data between SAP systems. Technically, the Plug-In contains ABAP objects, such as tables and programs, used for data extraction.

Caution

The Plug-In cannot be "plugged out" after its installation. Use the database backup to restore the system to its previous state if needed.

Work Instructions

Step 1. Check whether the DataSources have been activated. Log on to the R/3 source system, execute transaction RSA6, and then click graphics/clock.gif to list the active DataSources.

Note

DataSources in an R/3 source system come in two versions:

  • D – SAP delivery version
  • A – active version

The D version is the original definition from the Plug-In. The A version is used in data extraction.

Step 2. Click graphics/search.gif to search for 0PLANT's DataSources.

Note

In Business Content, DataSources are named in the following format:

  • _ATTR for master data
  • _TEXT for texts
  • __HIER for hierarchies

Step 10. Now we see a list of DataSource fields.

Note

Fields selected in the Selection column, such as WERKS in this case, will be used as the selection conditions when creating an InfoPackage to load 0PLANT master data.

Double-click BIW_T001WS in the ExtractStruktur text field to see the definition of the extract structure for this DataSource.

Result

The DataSource 0PLANT_ATTR has been activated.

After activating the DataSources on the R/3 source system side, next we need to replicate them on the BW side.

Step 13. From the Administrator Workbench, right-click the source system SND_250, and then select Replicate DataSources.

Result

When the procedure is finished, the status message Tree data refreshed: Source system tree appears at the bottom of Screen 10.44.

Note

Replicating DataSources from a source system will create identical DataSource structures in the BW system.
