Looking Through a Light

Pointing a light at just the right area of a scene can be difficult, but Maya makes it a little easier by allowing you to look through the light as you position it. As you look at the scene through the light, you can pan and dolly around until the light is pointing at the precise area of the scene you want to illuminate.

To look through a light:

1.

Select the light through which you want to view the scene.

2.

Inside a pane, select Panels > Look Through Selected (Figure 15.53).

Figure 15.53. Look Through Selected can be chosen from any pane menu or the Hotbox.

The view of the scene is now from the light's point of view (Figure 15.54).

Tips

  • If you want to focus the light on an object, select the object and, from inside a pane, select View > Look at Selection.
