In previous chapters, you saw how the XML-related functionality provided with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 can be used to great effect. However, that’s only part of the story. The XML support in SQL Server 2000 can be enhanced by downloading and installing XML For SQL Server 2000 Web Release 1 from the MSDN Web site (http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads). This update includes additional tools for building XML-based SQL Server applications. In particular, it includes updategrams, an XML-based way to modify data in a database, and the XML bulk load component, a programmable object for inserting large volumes of XML data into a database.
In this chapter, I’ll explain how to download and install the XML For SQL Server 2000 Web Release and how to create applications using updategrams and the XML bulk load component.
