Troubleshooting

Collapsible Outline Problems

When I try to use collapsible outlines on a Definition List, FrontPage has the option grayed out. How can I make it work on this option?

Collapsible outlines only work on bulleted and numbered lists and can't be used on any other list type.

Transitions Don't Work

I've inserted page transitions on several pages in my site, and they aren't showing up on most browsers that I view them on.

Page transitions are a browser-specific technology that don't work on many non-Microsoft options for surfing the Web. The great thing is that the page transition information is usually ignored by these browsers. As a result, you can use page transitions without worrying about them causing problems in other browser types.

In addition, if your transitions are being done on simple white pages on fast machines, they might happen so quickly that they might not "appear" visible to the end user.

DHTML on List Items

I'd like to use DHTML animations on list elements, but the DHTML toolbar is grayed out when they are selected.

You can only use DHTML effects on text blocks and images.

Mouse Over DHTML Effects on Part of a Paragraph

I'd like to use DHTML mouse over effects on just a specific word in a paragraph, but FrontPage forces the effect on the entire paragraph.

The limitations of DHTML prevent mouseover effects for just a section of a paragraph or sentence. The effect can only be applied to an entire HTML paragraph of text (no matter how long or short it is).

Hit Counters Don't Work

I've inserted my hit counter in to my Web page and published it at my Web site. I understand that I won't be able to view it at my disk-based Web, but it doesn't work at my Web site either. What am I doing wrong?

The hit counter system built in to FrontPage requires FrontPage Extensions and requires the content to be sent to the server via FrontPage Publish (to start the counter). If your site doesn't have FrontPage Extensions installed or you used an alternative method for publishing (such as FTP or WebDAV), the counter won't work. A number of Internet Web counters will work with all Web server types at http://bravenet.frontpagelink.com and http://dnstatistics.frontpagelink.com.

Hyperlinks in Marquees

How do I insert a hyperlink in to marquee text? Is it even possible?

You can insert a URL in marquee text either by inserting the URL directly in to the HTML through Code view or simply inserting the HTML in to the text area of the Marquee Properties dialog box.

In both tweaks, the browsers will render the HTML accordingly, but you will see the tags in the text in Design view.

Be careful inserting a hyperlink in to moving text. You don't want the effect of requiring your visitors to have to chase around one page just to get to the next one.
