KINDS OF TERRORISM: INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC TERRORISM

Terrorism: "the calculated use of unexpected, shocking, and unlawful violence against noncombatants (including, in addition to civilians, off-duty military and security personnel in peaceful situations) and other symbolic targets perpetrated by a clandestine member(s) of a sub-national group or a clandestine agent for the psychological purpose of publicizing a political or religious cause and/or intimidating or coercing a government, or civilian population into accepting demands on behalf of their cause." (Hudson, 1999)

For the United States, September 11 ^th , 2001 was a horror film translated into virtual reality. When international terrorists murdered thousands of innocent workers, the word 'Terrorism' changed meaning in our national vocabulary. Terrorism now has a symbolic meaning. The word Terrorism vividly represents destruction, death, evil, fear, horror and pain.

Workplaces can be the site of international and domestic terrorism. International terrorism originates from outside the country. Domestic terrorism originates from within and is indigenous to the location. The Attacks of September 11 are an example of work sites hit by extreme international terrorism. The high school in Columbine, Colorado is an extreme example of a work site victimized by two young domestic terrorists. Information Technology professionals who specialize in disaster planning and security concerns are on the lookout for both international and domestic terrorism in the form of cybercrime .
