Your Call to Action

This chapter considers some of the fit and finish items for your Google Web Services application. Making your application reliable, efficient, and fast is important if you want to get the most out of the features Google Web Services provides. However, it's also important to remember that some choices are mutually exclusive ”you might have to give up a little performance to obtain better application reliability.

While reading this chapter you considered options, not absolutes. The only absolute is your application needs. You need to use the information presented in this chapter to address your specific application needs. Consider elements such as the application platform and user environment as part of the option selection process. For example, a mobile device will probably give up a little reliability to ensure the application operates fast enough, but this isn't always a hard and fast rule. You might find that your particular mobile application helps locate sensitive information on Google (such as links for a product you want to buy) and therefore requires superior reliability.

Chapter 11 continues the process of honing your application. However, instead of considering the application requirements, Chapter 11 considers user requirements. Making an application faster may net you an overall gain in performance, but making the user faster always nets an overall gain in performance because user task speed is usually the critical performance factor for an application.
