Chapter 8.  Using Controls

In this chapter, we examined a variety of controls that can be used to build interesting, usable graphical user interfaces. Event handlers can be designed to trap interaction with these controls. In VB.NET, menus are built using either the MainMenu control or the ContextMenu control. Toolbars are built using both an ImageList control and the Toolbar control. And status bars are built using the StatusBar control. We examined a variety of calendar controls, range controls, and list controls that allow the user to interact with predefined sets of data, thus reducing the amount of validation code the programmer must write. Finally, we concluded with an examination of the common dialog controls that allow us to use the Windows dialogs (such as font, color , and printer selection) that are familiar to all Windows users.
