Booting Your Linux System

After the Red Hat installation has completed, the computer will boot to the Red Hat login screen. You must provide a valid user name and password. You also have the option of selecting the type of session that you will run. You can select from the GUIs you have installed or boot the system in a failsafe mode by selecting the Session link at the bottom of the login screen.

Remember that Linux differs from the other network operating systems that we have discussed (Windows Server 2003 and Novell NetWare) in that the Linux platform provides both a desktop and server environment. To create a desktop environment, you choose the tools needed by network users prior to the system installation. To create a server environment, you select the services and server options that you wish to deploy on the network server.
