6.5. SummaryUWB communications opens new areas of research, as these systems are very different when compared to narrowband and wideband systems in regard to signal generation techniques, propagation characteristics, and receiver design. Receiver design is one of the most challenging aspects of the overall system design. This chapter has given the various receiver architectures for currently existing UWB systems and some proposed systems. Optimizing the UWB receiver performance is still an open, challenging task, and there are opportunities for more future work. Clearly, future developments in UWB receiver design will focus on lowering costs and reducing interference and multipath distortion to enable increased range. Developing low-power receivers will continue to be an important research area. |
