Using a fictional case study, this chapter illustrates the methodology, tools, and best practices used to migrate a Tru64 environment to the Solaris environment. In this study, we examine a simple, custom-written application that uses a Sybase database to store information about the company's inventory, as well as client-specific data. This application is converted to run under the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) and is integrated with directory services. Additionally, the database vendor is changed from Sybase to Oracle.
