Saving and Reusing Your Search Criteria

You might want to save your search criteria for other documents in your site, especially with complex searches. Saved search criteria, known as queries, are usually saved in the Configuration/Queries folder inside the Dreamweaver folder by default. They can, however, be saved in different places.

In this exercise, you will save your search query in the Lesson_17_FindReplace folder.

1.	Choose Edit > Find and Replace. Adjust the settings to match those used in the previous exercise. Click the Save Query button in the Find and Replace dialog box. The Find and Replace dialog box has the same settings that were used in the last exercise. The icon on the Save Query button looks like a floppy disk. This command makes it possible for you to save and reuse complex searches.
2.	In the Save query to file (Macintosh) or Save Query (Windows) dialog box, locate and open the Lesson_17_FindReplace folder; then type addStyle in the Save As (Macintosh) or File Name (Windows) text field and click Save. Find queries have a .dwq extension; Replace queries have a .dwr extension. The extension is automatically added for you upon saving the query. Now that you have saved the addStyle query, it is available to you any time you need to run the same Find and Replace function in other documents. 3.	Click the Load Query button in the Find and Replace dialog box. The icon on the Load Query button looks like an open folder.
4.	In the Load Query (Windows) or Load query from file (Macintosh) dialog box, locate and open the addstyle.dwr query in the Lesson_17_FindReplace folder.

You can open stored find and replace queries and execute them from within the Find and Replace dialog box. You can close the Find and Replace dialog box, collapse the Results panel and close any open files.
