Chapter 5. ASP.NET Specifics

WEB APPLICATIONS DEMAND INTERNATIONALIZATION perhaps more than any other type of application. Their very medium, the World Wide Web, is by definition global. Access is often available to any person with a browser anywhere in the world. Despite this, ASP.NET started life with very low support for internationalization. In contrast, ASP.NET 2 is a quantum leap forward. In this chapter, we start by looking at the internationalization story in ASP.NET 1.1. This forms a bedrock upon which the new support in ASP.NET 2 rests. Even if you intend to jump straight into internationalization in ASP.NET 2, I recommend that you cover the basics first. The second half of this chapter is devoted exclusively to the new enhancements in ASP.NET 2; if you are using ASP.NET 1.1 and do not intend to upgrade (although you would be missing out on considerable internationalization support) you can skip this half.
