File Types Supported by Imaging

[Previous] [Next]

Imaging supports three file types: .tif, .jpg, and .bmp. When you work with any of these file types, Imaging can manage an annotation layer in addition to the underlying bitmap graphics data. You can add freehand drawing, rubber stamps (preset messages such as "approved" or "rejected," along with the current date), and make other assorted changes to the annotation layer. When you're satisfied with the result, you can merge the annotations into the underlying bitmap, making the annotations a permanent part of the document.

Imaging can save files in any of its three native file types. It can open files from the following additional formats: .pcx, .dcx, .xif, .gif, and .wif. When you open one of these types of files, Imaging's title bar displays the legend Read-Only. If you want to annotate one of these files, first save it in one of the three native formats.
