Publishing a Presentation to CD

A new feature in PowerPoint 2003 is the ability to create a self-contained CD that contains the presentation and a copy of a utility called PowerPoint Viewer. This utility enables any computer to display a PowerPoint presentation even if PowerPoint isn't installed.

For this feature to write directly to a CD, you must have a writeable or rewriteable CD drive and an operating system that supports writing to CD (such as Windows XP). If you don't have them, you can still package the presentation for CD and save the package to your hard disk. You can then copy the files to another disk later.

  1. Click on File. The File menu will appear.

  2. Click on Package for CD. The Package for CD dialog box will open.

  3. Type a name for the CD in the Name the CD box. This name will appear beneath the CD icon in My Computer when the disc is inserted into a computer.

  4. Insert a blank writeable CD into your CD-R or CD-RW drive.

  5. Click on Copy to CD.

  6. Click on Continue, if needed. You will see this dialog box only if you have comments, revisions, or annotations.

The needed files will be transferred to the CD. When the process is finished, the CD will be ejected from the drive (on most systems).

  7. Click on No. The Package for CD dialog box will reappear.

  8. Click on Close. The Package for CD dialog box will close.
