More about File & Directory OwnershipNormally when you create a new file, you are given ownership of that file and it is assigned to your default group. Your default group is assigned to you by Mac OS X when you are given your user account by the system administrator. You can belong to multiple groups. Unless the system administrator specifically assigns you to a different group, in Mac OS X, the default group is a unique group with the same name as your short name and with you as the sole member.
