In Part One, we'll look at the business problems and technical challenges faced by developers of distributed applications and the Microsoft approach to resolving those problems, Windows Distributed interNet Applications (DNA). We'll look at the three-tier, component-based application architecture recommended in Windows DNA and the technologies used to create DNA solutions—the Component Object Model (COM), universal data access (UDA), Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS), and Active Server Pages (ASP). We'll also look briefly at some enabling technologies for interoperability with non-Windows systems.
