Chapter 9 - Data-Driven ASP.NET Applications in the Real World
byJohn Kauffman, Fabio Claudio Ferracchiatiet al.?
Wrox Press ?2002

In this chapter, we've talked about a selection of subjects that should help you to create more professional applications. We didn't cover any of these topics exhaustively, but we talked enough about them to make you aware of how to take advantage of them, and how to get started. We looked at:

  • How to deal with errors in your application to give the user the best experience possible

  • How to make use of transactions to ensure that critical data updates are either all written successfully, or not written at all

  • What the benefits of separation page layout and code are, and how Visual Studio .NET makes it easy to implement

  • How security considerations should be a part of everything you do

In the next chapter, we'll look more closely at the options available to you when you decide to separate code and layout, when we discuss the topic of componentization.
