Create Custom Rule

Creating custom CSS rules (also called class styles) gives your style sheets a modular quality. Instead of simply adding fixed styles to your set of external style sheetsas you did with the cell content in the previous sectionyou can customize them as needed. That's because custom rules, such as the redItal rule we create below, can be applied to any tag, like that cell text, and still preserve the original tag's font and size properties. The biggest advantage: creative flexibility without stylistic chaos. (See extra bits on page 74.)
