Viewing a Log of Your Calls

To see a list of the calls you've made and received using Phone Dialer, choose Call Log from the View menu. The call log appears in a Notepad window, from which you can view, edit, and print the log.

As you'll see, Phone Dialer saves the call log as a CSV (comma separated values) file, which means you can easily import the log into a spreadsheet or database program for further analysis—or just to spruce up its appearance. Each call record has six fields:

• Call direction (incoming or outgoing)
• Date
• Time
• Duration, in minutes and seconds
• Display name
• Phone number, computer name, or IP address

Phone Dialer stores the log in the %UserProfile%\Local Settings\ Application Data\Microsoft\Dialer folder, and gives it a name like user_call_log.txt, where user is your user name. (%UserProfile% is an environment variable that contains the actual path to your profile folder. On a system with local user profiles, that path is typically C:\Documents and Settings\user.)
