The HSUS Disaster Center, which features disaster planning and response resources for natural and manmade emergencies, offers information on the Disaster Animal Response Team (DART) program. DART team members, who are trained in community disaster response and preparedness, specialize in response techniques for rescuing animals caught in disasters. People with skills and experience in animal handling, emergency/public services, or disaster work who are interested in joining DART should e-mail [e-mail] for additional information. HSUS also provides direct financial support to the volunteer canine teams of the Federal Emergency Management Agency Urban Search and Rescue Response Task Forces through the Disaster Dog Program.
