Adding Entities

There are three entities that you must always add to your Reality Factory levels before you first test them:

  • PlayerStart

  • PlayerSetup

  • EnvironmentSetup

    Note

The Reality Factory documentation is available in HTML, PDF, and CHM (compiled help) format and can be viewed online or downloaded for offline viewing. They can be obtained from the Reality Factory Web site at www.realityfactory.ca. Additional tools and information are also available.

To add entities, first go into Template Select mode and open the Templates panel. Choose the entity you want to add from the drop-down list. If you have the entity selected, the main template view (the purple one) should change from a brush shape (the cube we are using above, for example) to a small square with an x in the middle.

Make sure that your entity is inside the cube like ours currently is, and then hit Enter to add the entity to the world.

When you add your PlayerStart, make sure that you are placing the entity near the ground because the PlayerStart actually appears where the player’s feet are. If you place them up in the air, the player will do a noticeable drop when he starts the level (and potentially cause damage to the player, depending on your gravity and damage settings).

Now that we have the three entities placed in our world, let’s get it ready for testing in the engine.
