Section 44. Verify Workgroup Membership and Access Network Neighborhood

44. Verify Workgroup Membership and Access Network Neighborhood

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Run the Network Setup Wizard

After you have configured your WiFi-enabled computers (or hard-wired network computers) to be members of the workgroup, you can browse for these computers on the network. Locating these computers allows you to access any shared resources they might have, such as files and printers. If you can't actually view the computers in the workgroup, you have some sort of connectivity issue with either the computer you are working on or with the other workgroup computers. Viewing the workgroup computers in the Workgroup window allows you to make sure that all the configurations you have created in the preceding tasks in this chapter actually work.

Verify Workgroup Membership and Access Network Neighborhood

Open My Network Places

Click the Start button and then select My Network Places on the Start menu. The My Network Places window opens. This window shows you any network locations to which you have created a connection. For more information on adding Network Places to your computer, see Add a Network Place.

Open Workgroup Window

In the Network Tasks list on the left side of the window, click View workgroup computers. The workgroup window opens.

View Workgroup Computers

All the computers in the workgroup appear in the workgroup window. You can access any of the resources shared on these computers by double-clicking a specific computer icon. For more about sharing and accessing workgroup resources, see About Sharing Network Resources.
