Why Update My Source Files?

graphics/troubleshooting_icon.jpg

I chose not to update my source file and decreased the size of my image. Now I want to increase the size of the image, but it's all blurry. What did I do wrong?

If you use the Optimize in Fireworks tool and choose not to update any source file, be careful if you choose to resize JPEG or GIF images. If you make an image smaller, but later want to return it to its original size, without the source file you'll end up with blurry graphics. JPEGs and GIFs are both raster images, which can't be easily increased in size without distortion. For this reason, it's always a good idea to keep your source files and save them in PNG format. PNG images are vector images and are less susceptible to distortion during the resizing process.

Where Are the UltraDev CF Server Objects?

I manage a site that uses UltraDev 4 ColdFusion server objects and I don't see support for them in Dreamweaver MX 2004. Are they gone?

Macromedia has removed support for the UltraDev 4 ColdFusion server objects in Dreamweaver MX 2004, so if you are working with sites that contain these server objects, you need to update them to the Dreamweaver MX 2004 server objects for ColdFusion before you can edit those elements.

Frequently Changing Content

Should I be using dynamic pages or copy/paste to update my pages that rely on data stored in Word documents or Excel spreadsheets?

If your page needs to display Word or Excel tables that won't change, copying and pasting can be effective. If, however, the information will be updated frequently and those changes need to be reflected in your pages, you should consider importing your information into an Access database and using Dreamweaver's database-connectivity tools rather than continually copying/pasting the data into your pages. If you use these tools, the dynamic pages are automatically updated whenever you make changes to the Access database, saving you the hassle of manually updating each page.
