Step 13: Update All of Your Security Programs and Security Signatures

After you have connected to the Internet, some of your security programs might have started updating themselves to protect you automatically against new threats. Nonetheless, you should manually go to each security program you've installed and look for the option to update the program.

Don't forget to update the following programs:

• Antivirus program

• Anti-spyware program(s)

• Firewall program

Sometimes an update of your program might require further updates of the program. For any updates that require you to restart your computer, run the update process on that program again after rebooting to make sure you've caught all relevant updates. Just like it says on a shampoo bottle : Repeat as necessary.
