How to Navigate MIBs on Cisco's Web Site

All Cisco MIB files are located in the public MIBs area on the Cisco Connection Online (CCO) Web site. The MIB files are all under this URL:

http://www.cisco.com/public/mibs/

The MIBs and many support items are located under various directories at this location. Here, we give descriptions on the contents of each directory.

Under the mibs directory, you find these entries:

  • app-notes In this directory are several application notes from wide-ranging areas. Some are dated, but even those can still provide good information. We recommend reading through all the application notes so you are familiar with the material available there.

  • archive In this directory, the older monolithic MIB files are kept. The archive directory is something of a mirror of the mibs area. Here, you will find the MIB files, OID files, and schema files for IOS 10.0 and earlier.

  • contrib A collection of contributed non-supported scripts or files. Like the app-notes directory, a good place to check out to see what is available.

  • oid A useful directory if you have SunNet Manager, which requires the OID strings of each object rather than ASN.1 format MIB files. It is also the best place to find the OIDs of most Cisco-supported MIB objects.

  • schema Like the OID directory, these files are provided if you have SunNet Manager that requires MIB files in this format.

  • traps Also like the OID and schema directory. These files were made available for SunNet manager.

  • routers The support list file for all routers.

  • supportlists A listing by device of supported MIB files. The next section of the appendix covers this directory in detail.

  • v1 A collection of SNMPv1 SMI MIB files. Included are the older MIB files that were implemented in SNMPv1 SMI and also newer SNMPv2 SMI MIB files converted to SNMPv1 SMI.

  • v2 The newer MIB files, all in SNMPv2 SMI.

  • v2-to-v1 Obsolete. Originally where converted MIB files were kept, but now it is a symbolic link to the v1 directory.
