adjustment layer
A nondestructive layer that enables you to adjust the tone or color in an image without altering the content of the layers beneath it.
alias
The name for the jagged edges (jaggies) that are seen when an image doesn't contain enough information to make a smooth transition on angled or rounded edges. It's also called stair-stepping because the edge can look like a series of steps.
alpha channel
An extra channel in which you can save a selection.
antialiasing
The method of reducing jagged edges in an image or text by slightly blurring the edges of shapes and text to make them appear smooth.
