GETTING DEFINITIONS WITHOUT LAUNCHING DICTIONARY

If you're using the Safari Web browser, Text Edit, Stickies, or any Cocoa application, you can have definitions to words appear right within the application (rather than launching the whole Oxford Dictionary application). Here's how: First launch the Dictionary application (it's in your Applications folder), and when it appears, go under the Dictionary menu and choose Preferences. When the Preferences dialog appears, in the Contextual Menu section, choose Open Dictionary Panel. Now when you highlight a word, Control-click on the highlighted word, choose Look Up in Dictionary, and a little panel will pop up right there with the definition. If the page has a number of words you don't understand, you can speed things up by holding Command-Control-D and then move your cursor over any word that you want to know the definition of (by the way, hovering over the phrase "Microsoft innovation" doesn't bring up a definition because that's actually an oxymoronsorry, I just couldn't help myself).
