In addition to using Windows Update, subscribe to the Microsoft Security Notification Service, at http://register.microsoft.com/subscription/subscribeme.asp?ID=135 , to register for regular e-mail bulletins that notify you of new fixes and updates.

You can also use the "Hotfix & Security Bulletin Service," at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/current.asp , on the TechNet Web site. This allows you to view the security bulletins that are available for your system.
