As we've seen in previous chapters, tables based on the standard fixtures are suitable for a wide range of Fit tests. However, it is not necessary to restrict yourself to those types of tables if the tests can be expressed better in a different way. In this chapter, we show three examples of tables that may encourage you to design new table structures for your purposes. Custom table formats can simplify the process of creating and maintaining some types of tests. So feel free to invent a table structure that suits your needs. One aspect of the power of Fit is that it provides a very general approach to using tables for testing. It is not difficult for programmers to create custom fixtures for custom table formats. Of course, there is a tradeoff between the effort of those who create the test tables and those who write the fixtures; in general, it is worth putting programmer effort into the fixtures so that the Fit tables express the tests as clearly as possible. |
