Restoring to a Different Database

For development and testing purposes it's often desirable to create an exact copy of a database. This is easily done through the Restore Database dialog box. Select the backup of the database you want to restore, and in the Restore as Database window, type the name of the new database. Click OK and the new database will be created. The file structure of the database will be identical to that of the original, but the filenames will be changed to reflect the name of the database you are creating. If you are restoring to a new database on a different server, the servers must have the same character set, sort order, and Unicode collation. In addition, if the location of the database files is in a different directory on the new server, or you want to have the files created in a directory other than where the original database files existed, you will need to adjust the pathnames in the Options tab.
