Real-World Problems

Real-World Problems

It'd be nice to sit back and enjoy. But that's easier said than done because no matter how you try to keep on top of your MP3 collection, you'll always end up finding a song that you can't stand. How to skip that song? Very easy just hit = or +, and freeamp will go on to the next song.

So it's five minutes until the party is going to start, and you want some tunes. Well, it's time to start things up. Run freeamp with the right playlist, and turn off the monitor, or move it, or hide it. Away goes the music. When that damned Barry Manilow tune comes on (why'd you keep that one, anyway?), just stroll over to the jukebox's keyboard like the techno-wizard you are, and hit = (just once, mind you). And away goes the evil tune and the next one is started. If you mess up and hit it too many times, you can go back by pressing -. (And do us all a favor after the party ”delete that song you don't like anymore.)

You know it'll happen, sooner or later ”you'll fill up your 40GB drive, and you'll have to start using CD-Rs full of MP3s. Well, that takes just a hair of configuration work. You'll need to modify your /etc/fstab so that a normal user (yourself) can mount and unmount CD-ROMs. The appropriate line is:

/dev/hdc /cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0

Now go ahead and test that you can successfully mount and unmount CD-Rs and CD-ROMs. Once you've verified that, it's time to alias a couple of things.
