Until now you have only tested your application in the local WAS test environment. Now you are ready to test on an iSeries IBM WebSphere Application Server. In this exercise, you will export files created by the WebFacing Tool to a remote WebSphere Application server, to publish and deploy your application as you would in real-life development.
This exercise shows you how to publish your WebFacing files to a remote WebSphere Application Server 5.0 environment on an iSeries host. The tasks described in this exercise are split for WebSphere Application Server Express 5.0, which is very easy, and WebSphere Application Server Version 5.0 for iSeries, which is a little more complex. If you are working with WebSphere Application Server Version 5.0 (and not Version 4.0 or 3.5), follow the instructions in this chapter to create the Web application from a WebFacing project in the workbench. The instructions for the other two versions of WAS are in Appendix A and Appendix B.
You will start the Export tool in Development Studio Client, specify files to export, and install and start the Web application using the WAS Administrative Console. At the end of this exercise, you should be able to
Use the WebSphere Development Client wizards to specify the files to deploy to the application server
Export the selected Enterprise Archive File (EAR) files to the server file system
Install the WebFaced application on the remote application server through the WAS Administrative Console
Use a browser to invoke the WebFaced application on the remote application server
Learn how to copy selected files from a WebFacing project in the workbench to the application server, to apply small changes without having to copy the complete EAR file
