Chapter 14: SpelunkingExploration Using Data Mining

All we discover has been with us since the sun began to roll.
—Herman Melville

Overview

In Chapter 12, we learned the five steps for data mining:

  • Problem Definition

  • Data Preparation

  • Training

  • Validation

  • Deploy

In Chapter 13, we worked through the first three steps. Now it is time to work on the final two.

In this chapter, we use the Mining Accuracy Chart in the Business Intelligence Development Studio to validate the data mining models we created in Chapter 13. Then, we use the Mining Model Prediction tab to make predictions with our mining models. Finally, we look at the Data Mining Extensions (DMX), which enable us to create data mining queries.
