Go to the Publish settings (CTRL-SHIFT-F12 or OPT-SHIFT-F12 on the Mac) of any Flash document, go to the General tab, and put a check box by Windows or Macintosh projector, depending on what type of computer you're using. Now press Publish (SHIFT-F12). Double-click on the projector file that was created (either .exe or .hqx file) and you'll see your movie play without being in a browser.
Projectors are essentially your Flash movie bundled with a copy of the Flash player so they do not require the person running them to have Flash or the plug-in for playback. They are very useful when you're sending your movie to someone like my grandmother who thinks Flash is a part of a camera or when putting your movie on a CD for distribution.
