Even though Flash has several features built in that let you preview your work while authoring, there's really no substitute for the real thing. Fortunately, there's an easy way to test what you've done without leaving the authoring environment.
Using CTRL-ENTER or CMD-ENTER (Test Movie) at any time while authoring will quickly export your movie to an SWF file and load it in Flash for playback. You can test what you've done and close the window when you're through, and you're thrown right back to your document. This won't always work when you're getting data from a database in Flash, but for everyday purposes it's just what you need.
