Flash MX 2004 focuses a great deal of attention on making certain capabilities more user friendly and robust. One of the main improvements for you people who import video into Flash is the Video Import wizard. This wizard gives you several powerful options, including the ability to edit the video you're importing. Import a video by using CTRL-R and locating a video file. When you click OK, the wizard starts by asking if you want to edit the video file or just import it. Choose Edit and click Next. In editing, you can create clips based on the original video by dragging the triangle handles on either side of the video Timeline and clicking Create clip. Flash imports several clips based on the original without ever actually altering it.
These new clips are imported into your Flash document, and you can do what you like with them. Granted the editing isn't very powerful, but for the basic trimming of video, this is a handy new tool.
