Changing the Way People Use Computers

Perhaps you already use wireless networking, or perhaps you are just about to get started with it. Either way, you are one of a minority. Statistics show that only a fairly small percentage of people in the United States are using Wi-Fi. Less than 20% of households have some form of wireless networking in use, or have a wireless mobile computer. Turned around, this statistic means that more than 80% of us haven t yet experienced the joys of anywhere computing!

Why don t more people use wireless computing? There are a number of difficulties with wireless computing. Here are some of the most significant ones:

  • It can be difficult to install. Only 28% of users in one survey were able to install a Wi-Fi card on their own.

  • It can be hard to find the right wireless station (or SSID). This book will help you understand how to correctly find the SSID.

  • Wireless computing inherently is less secure than wired computing.

  • Wi-Fi coverage is incomplete, and access to wireless networks is not seamless.

Anywhere computing changes the way people live and work. We are no longer tethered to our fixed wires and locations. But before this freedom can be achieved, there is work to be done in clearing bottlenecks and roadblocks.
