Booting the ASAPIX Security Appliance

Booting the ASA/PIX Security Appliance

This book addresses booting the ASA/PIX Security Appliance in two different ways. Although it's not generally recommended, you can boot the security appliance just by turning the power supply off on the back of the unit, waiting 15 seconds, and then turning the switch back on. If you boot a security appliance this way, changes made to the configuration are not saved unless you do a write memory command before you turn off the device. The second option for restarting the ASA/PIX Security Appliance is to enter the reload command in the Enable mode of the command-line interpreter. This boot method gives you a chance, before your device reboots, to save any configuration changes you have made.
