Chapter 9. Communicating Better with Clients

Issues Covered

In This Chapter

  • How can you use e-mail to stay in closer touch with buyers and sellers?

  • How can you use your Web site to better communicate with buyers and sellers?

  • How can you use PDF files to more easily inform buyers and sellers?

  • How can you keep buyers and sellers abreast of the latest listings?

One of the most common complaints that unhappy clients have about their agents is that they feel out of the loop. Clearly, it's hard to juggle multiple clients at all hours of the day every day of the week. Sometimes they forget we have personal lives to attend to as well. But there's no excuse for not keeping clients informedeven if all you can say at the moment is, "I don't have the answer, but I will let you know as soon as I do. Please be assured that I'm actively working on this."

I'm convinced that a lot of the criticisms about agents keeping clients out of the loop are caused by the fact that clients typically have no idea about all the work you do behind the scenes. But that's your problem, not the clients'. Using technology won't solve the issue of not responding to messages promptlybut keeping clients in the loop with rich details may reduce the number of "urgent" calls you have to answer.

In other words, technology can help you be proactive and provide in-depth information at the same time.
