What does "The PivotTable field name is not valid" mean?

Problem

When you try to create a pivot table, you get the following error message:

"The PivotTable field name is not valid. To create a PivotTable report, you must use data that is organized as a list with labeled columns. If you are changing the name of a PivotTable field, you must type a new name for the field."

Solution

This message means that one or more of the columns in your data source does not have a header name. To correct this problem, go to the dataset you are using to create the pivot table and make sure that all columns have a header name.
