Although Flash is primarily known for its graphics and animation capabilities, text is also a vital part of the Flash environment. Flash is increasingly being used for promotional efforts, distance learning (as you'll see in Chapter 13), and Rich Application development, among other things. Text is possibly the most important individual part of any of these types of projects, and using Flash to create them doesn't change that fact. In some ways, particularly regarding the legibility of small type sizes, text in Flash has been a problem. In fact, this issue created a cottage industry of developers producing bitmap fonts designed especially for use in Flash. Flash 8, with its new FlashType text-rendering engine, has gone a long way toward improving this situation. |
