Prerequisites for Using .NET Web Services

Creating .NET Web Services

The Microsoft implementation of creating Web Services is very advanced, which makes it easy for a developer to create and deploy these Web Services. By providing an interface for Internet Explorer, the services are easy to test and document. You’ll also find in this chapter that applications are not the only consumers of Web Services. Web pages, whose content can be customized for a variety of devices including cell phones or PDAs that have access to the Web, can also be consumers of Web Services.

This chapter starts off with creating a simple stock quote Web Service, and then you will create several different consumers of that service.
