Set Up Categories (Win)


It's easy to add a new category or subcategory. The Carroll family lives in California, so they need to set up a subcategory for earthquake insurance. On Windows, choose Tools > Category List. The Category List opens.

Give the new category or subcategory a name , then press the Tab key to get to the next field. Enter a short description. You can skip the Group field.

If the category or subcategory is tax-related (meaning that you want to use it to track tax- related income or expenses), click the Tax-related check box, and choose the tax form line item from the pop-up menu that matches the category or subcategory.

Quicken shows you a brief description of the tax form line item. For example, here is the Tax section of the IRA Contributions category. When you're done, click OK to save your new category or subcategory.
