On the Mac, choose Lists > Categories & Transfers > List, or press Cmd-L. The Categories & Transfers List opens. To add a category, click New. To add a subcategory, first select the parent category in the list, and then click Add Subcategory . In either case, the Set Up Category dialog appears.
Enter the name and description for the category or subcategory. If you are adding a new category, choose the Category Type by clicking Income or Expense (if you're adding a subcategory, these buttons will be inactive, because a subcategory must always be of the same type as its parent category). If necessary, click the Tax- related check box. Then you can click Assign tax link and select the line item tax form for that category or subcategory. Click Create when you are done.
