Unless you pump up your Treo with a monster-sized memory card (1GB+), it's unlikely to compete with a dedicated digital music player such as Apple's iPod. However, even a more reasonably sized memory card allows you to store enough music on your device to make it plenty functional as a digital music player. Granted, there are some drawbacks in terms of not being able to play purchased tracks with DRM restrictions, but nothing is stopping you from ripping your own MP3 tracks and listening to them on your Treo. I also have some degree of confidence that Microsoft, Apple, and other interested parties are working toward offering a DRM solution so that legitimately purchased digital music is better supported across all platforms, including the Treo platform. In the meantime, a combination of the built-in RealPlayer and possibly a third-party media player serve as decent Treo digital music options. |
