Chapter 12. Process Management

 < Day Day Up >

Summary

This chapter detailed the permissions systems that interact with other commands and files to control or limit what a user can do with the system. Most users can get by in day-to-day use by just letting the system default permissions stand, and occasionally running Apple's Fix Permissions tweak from Disk Utility when things go unfathomably wrong. If you take the time to learn about the permissions system, however, you can exact much more fine-grained control over who has what type of access to your files and enhance the utility of your system to yourself and for your other users.
