This section details the hardware and software requirements for running the code in this book.

Workstation Setup

To run the COM examples in this book, you will need the following worksta tion setup:

• A single or dual processor PC. A 600 MHz Pentium III processor is recommended.

• At least 128 MB of RAM; 256 MB of RAM is recommended.

• Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional

• The .NET Framework version 1.1

• Optionally, Visual Studio .NET 2003

• 3 GB of free disk space if installing Visual Studio .NET

Server Setup

To run the COM+ examples, we strongly recommend you use a separate server machine if possible. You can run the COM+ server and client code on a single machine, but using two machines especially for the MSMQ exam plesprovides a far more realistic setup. Here is what we recommend for the server machine:

• A single or dual processor PC. A 600 MHz Pentium III processor is recommended.

• At least 256 MB of RAM; 512 MB of RAM is recommended.

• Windows 2000 Server, or Windows Server 2003 when available

• The .NET Framework version 1.1

• Optionally, Visual Studio .NET 2003

• Internet Information Server, complete installation

• Management and Monitoring Tools

• Microsoft Indexing Service

• Microsoft Queuing Services

• Networking Services

• 3 GB of free disk space if installing Visual Studio .NET
