Visual Studio.NET is a development environment that acts as the host for the range of Microsoft .NET languages such as Visual Basic, C++ and C#. The objective behind Visual Studio is to have a single interface and set of tools that work across any .NET language irrespective of the language's features or semantics. This type of development tool is often referred to as an Integrated Development Environment, or IDE (See Figure 3.1).
