One of the nice features of Microsoft Access is that there is often a preprogrammed button to add basic functionality to your application. See Figure 11-2 to see the categories of preprogrammed buttons . You should become familiar with the features in this dialog. Tasks such as opening a form, saving a record, or navigating through the records on a form can all be done just by dropping a button onto the form and selecting the appropriate action. If you want to customize, Access can write the code for you to open a form, and you can edit the code to take the value from a combo box to pick which form to open. Figure 11-2. Preprogrammed buttons available for Microsoft Access databasesWhile it is unlikely that you can write an entire application using only the wizards, you can significantly reduce the amount of code that you have to write. In addition, since this code is written for you, testing is much less time-consuming, allowing you to focus on the aspects of your application that truly add value. |
