Working with User Accounts


Once you have set up a user account, you can make changes to it:

  • Edit the user profile information (WordPress server installation blogs only).

  • Change a user's role.

  • Delete the user account.

You do both of these things with the Authors & Users administration panel (Figure 3 or 7).

To edit a user's profile

1.

In the Authors & Users administration panel (Figure 7), click the Edit link for a user.

Make changes in the Edit User administration panel (Figure 8). The options are the same as those in the Your Profile and Personal Options adminstration panel discussed earlier in this chapter, but you can also change the user's role.

Click Update User to save your changes.

To change a user's role

1.

In the Authors & Users administration panel (Figure 3 or 7), turn on the check box beside each user whose role you want to change.

2.

In the Update users area, select the Set the Role of checked users to option and choose a role from the drop-down list.

Click Update. The roles are changed for the user(s) you checked.

To remove a user

1.

In the Authors & Users administration panel (Figure 3 or 7), turn on the check box beside each user you want to remove.

2.

In the Update users area:

  • For a WordPress.com blog, select the Remove checked users from blog option.

  • For a WordPress server installation blog, select the Delete checked users option.

Click Update.

For a WordPress.com blog, the Remove Users from Blog administration panel appears (Figure 9a). Continue to step 5.

or

For a WordPress server installation blog, the Delete Users administration panel appears (Figure 9b). Select one of the options:

  • Delete all posts and links deletes all posts and links added by the user you are deleting.

  • Attribute all posts and links to enables you to choose another user to become owner of the deleted users posts and links.

5.

Click Confirm Removal or Confirm Deletion.

Warning!

  • When you remove a WordPress.com user, all posts attributed to that user will also be permanently removed. This cannot be undone.


Tip

  • When you remove a user from a WordPress.com blog, the user's account remains active, but the user no longer has access to your blog.
